THE next phase has been announced in the development of Limerick’s Local Sports Plan, a first for players and sporting fans alike.
Limerick City and County Council announced the collaboration with the Limerick Sports Partnership to hear what people had to say about increasing participation in sports across the county.
The plan is being developed by the Council in partnership with Limerick Sports Partnership, with the aim of creating a shared vision for sport and physical activity.
Members of the public are invited to attend a series of facilitated public consultation workshops which are hoped to help shape the future of sport in Limerick.
Workshops get underway from Wednesday September 3 at Desmond Complex, Newcastle West from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and in Kilmallock Library on September 11 during the same time.
Adare Community Hall will host one of the four workshops from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on September 4, while those closer to the city can attend the Citizen Innovation Hub on Sarsfield Street on the same day and time.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran said the Council has been “driving on new sports facility delivery as well as reopening closed facilities like Askeaton Swimming Pool. Limerick is truly the home of sport. The strong engagement we’ve seen so far is also a clear reflection of the pride and passion people across Limerick have for sport and physical activity.”
“We are trying to create an environment where mental wellbeing, preventative health and active lifestyles are supported through smarter local policies and greater accountability.”
