LIMERICK is a diverse and inclusive city โ a city proud to celebrate difference, and one that does not tolerate inequality and hatred.
Despite the inclement weather, the people of the Treaty City came out in large numbers last Sunday to say ‘Cรฉad mรญle fรกilte’.
The second Limerick Says Welcome, organised by the Limerick Anti-Racism Network (LARN), was a family fun day to celebrate the city’s wonderful diversity.
LARN, a broad network of individuals and groups promoting inclusivity and hoping to counter speech, narratives, and actions that serve to divide communities, had the welcome mat out for all at Baker Place.
The heart of the city’s Georgian Quarter was an epicentre for kindness and tolerance as families from different cultures gathered for a fun-filled and positive fรชte.
Working to develop a strong culture of unity and understanding, the message for Limerickโs migrant community was a strong one. With the sound of live music, children’s laughter, and the chatter of parents discussing the new school term, the city proclaimed its support and love for all its people.
“Limerick is a welcoming place. People from all over the world have come here to work, to study, or to seek protection from war and oppression. We all need to work together to ensure that each and every one of them feels safe and at home in the city, regardless of how long theyโve lived here, or where theyโve come from,” CEO of Doras John Lannon, speaking at the event, told the Limerick Post.
