Swimmers get their togs on for annual event

NEARLY 300 swimmers are getting ready for an annual Shannonside event attracting the young and the young at heart alike.

The Limerick Narwhals Island Swim will take place from 5pm on Saturday September 6 at the Hunt Museum.

Now in its 11th year, the Island Swim will see swimmers aged 11 to 80 take part, along with 20 kayakers, 10 boats, and five jet skis.

The 3.8km swim will pass through the city’s medieval centre.

The swim is taking place despite ongoing works on King’s Island, thanks to support from the Hunt Museum, Athlunkard Boat Club, Limerick Civil Defence, Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, Shannon Paddlers, and Kilkee Jet Ski Club.
