Sarsfield Credit Union has launched the Pat Woods Student Bursary Award Scheme 2025, celebrating the life and legacy of the late Pat Woods, who dedicated almost two decades to the organisation.

Pat, who passed away last year, was remembered by Chairperson Pat Foley as “a friend, mentor and guiding presence” since joining Sarsfield in 2007. Serving as Director, Chairperson, and Secretary of the Board Oversight Committee, he was admired for his integrity, kindness, and belief in people and education.

Pat’s family also expressed their pride at the launch, noting his lifelong commitment to volunteerism and his passion for community service. “He would be delighted to see this bursary include students entering apprenticeships in the trades,” said his wife Marie, reflecting his own long career in the electrical industry.

The scheme, announced by CEO David Costelloe, will award three bursaries of €2,000 each to students who have completed the Leaving Certificate in 2025, attended a local secondary school, and are members of Sarsfield Credit Union. “This initiative is about more than funding—it’s about helping young people achieve their potential and build a brighter future,” he said.

Applications are now open online at sarsfieldcu.ie and must be submitted by 31st August 2025.

The bursary not only provides financial support but also ensures that Pat’s legacy of community, opportunity, and belief in education will live on through the next generation of Limerick students.
