Limerick GardaĆ­ investigating after man shot in leg

A man is recovering from gunshot wounds sustained in a broad daylight attack in Limerick City.

The Garda Press Office said that no injuries had been reported to the , however reliable sources confirmed the man sustained injuries in a shooting that occurred at Childers Road, Limerick, this past Wednesday afternoon (Sep 3).

The Garda Press Office did confirm that GardaĆ­ ā€œreceived a report of an alleged discharge of a firearm at a premises on Childers Roadā€.

A Garda spokeswoman said that ā€œthe incident occurred at approximately 4pm at a premises along Childers Roadā€.

Garda enquiries were ā€œongoingā€, the press office stated.

It’s understood the injured man sustained a gunshot wound to a leg in the attack.

Sources said a number of men who are known to GardaĆ­ were present at the scene.

GardaĆ­ were investigating a number of possible theories behind a motive for the shooting. One theory being examined was that the man who was shot and injured was one of two men who attended at the scene to act as intermediaries in a dispute between two rival groups.

GardaĆ­ will be on alert to possible further attacks, sources said.

GardaĆ­ are also currently actively monitoring several separate violent disputes or feuds between rival groups in the city and in the county.

A surge in recent drive-by shootings, firebombings, pipebomb attacks, and attacks on homes and vehicles by men armed with slashhooks and machetes has led to increased armed Garda patrols being deployed to flashpoint areas at Ballinacurra Weston, Southill, Castleconnell, Kilmallock, and Rathkeale.
