Exciting times for basketball in Limerick

THE new national basketball season will commence on the opening weekend of October, it has been confirmed.

For the first time, Limerick Celtics will compete in the Men’s SuperLeague, with a first outing listed against Ballincollig at UL Arena on Saturday October 4.

It’s women side will compete in Division One, as will Limerick Sport Huskies.

The two teams are to meet on the opening weekend at Limerick Educate Together Secondary School.

Limerick Sport Eagles will participated in Division One of the Men’s League.

Celtics have arranged a SuperLeague Tournament for UL on the weekend of September 21, with leading clubs from around the country confirmed.

Meanwhile, eight players from Celtics represented Ireland at this Summer’s European Championships and Four Countries International Event.

Those on international duty were Philip Kearney (U20), Micheal Cleary (U17), Madelyn Hartigan (U16), Anna Nealon (U17), Robyn Walsh (U16), Meabh Purtill (U18), Laura Gocek (U17) and Laura Buckley (U16).
