AFTER a break of 15 years, four members of the Kerley family returned to feature for Athlunkard Villa in the local football league at the weekend.

Brothers Keith, Raymond Junior, Jamie, and Christian, who range in age from 29 to 49, all lined out for Villa in a Division 3A fixture against Lough Derg at scenic Clarrisford Park, Killaloe, on Sunday afternoon.

For good measure, Villa are managed this season by their father, Raymond Senior, a founding member of the club back in 1984.

“We lost our mum (Jean) in the run up to Christmas 2023 and by coming together to help form this team, Dad was an obvious choice as boss,” said Keith, who along with Roy O’Connell is joint manager of the club’s Premier team.

The exciting fixture finished 3-3, with the goals for Villa from Scott Bridges, Peter Taylor, and Aidan Ryan, while Shane Grace, Cian Oakley, and Riley Smith were all on the mark for Derg.

Athlunkard, who field three adult men’s teams, are based in and around King’s Island.

It won promotion to the top tier last season.
