SINGER Red Hurley will perform his “How Great Thou Art” Spiritual Hits Concert at St Mount Alphonsus Church (Redemptorist) on Friday September 26 to celebrate 12 years as patron of Clare’s Wish Foundation.
The charity was launched in 2014 by Limerick man Kevin Clancy in honour of his late sister Clare, who had Spina Bifida and passed away in 1984 aged just 24. Clare’s Wish Foundation remains the only Irish registered charity granting wishes to adults with terminal conditions.
Kevin’s connection with Red Hurley dates back to 1978, when his teenage sister met her musical hero after a show in Dundrum, Co. Tipperary. “Clare couldn’t believe her luck when she got to meet the singer,” Kevin recalls. “Red sang for her and also gave her a signed copy of his album, which I still have to this day.”
Red became the foundation’s patron in October 2013, performing at the launch night and a special concert at Lime Tree Theatre in April 2014 alongside the late Brendan Grace, which raised €10,500 for the charity.
Since then, Red has held annual fundraising concerts for Clare’s Wish Foundation. Friday’s concert begins at 8:15pm, with tickets priced at £25 available from St Mount Alphonsus church shop, www.eventbrite.ie, or on the door.
