VILLIERS Rowing Club will attempt to set an Irish record in the Concept 2 Menโ€™s U19 100,000m Row this Friday.

Entering in the small team category, the crew will consist of 10 students โ€“ Art Thornbury, Cormac Welch, Tim Gouws, Noah Quinton, Seรกn Hayes, Sam Dunworth, Eoin Oโ€™Sullivan, Cace Macmillan, Barry Wilmot, and Cillian Burke.

Organised and supervised by teacher Kerrie Crowley and parent Simon Welch, the event will take place over six hours beginning at 11am on Friday morning, with the athletes taking turns racing 500m sprints on a rowing machine.

It is believed to be the first time that an Irish crew in the U19 small team category has ever attempted this relay-style event, which will test the rowersโ€™ strength, endurance, strategy, and teamwork.

This will be the first Irish record attempt that Villiers Rowing Club will undertake, and is sure not to be the last, with plans to break the record currently held by a Galwegian squad in the large team category in the near future.
