COUNCILLOR Ursula Gavan has welcomed the ending of the Central Bankโs role in facilitating the sale of Israeli war bonds across the European Union.
The bonds have played a key role in raising finance for the Israeli state throughout the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which has claimed at least 62,000 lives to date.
โI welcome the news that our Central Bank is no longer handling Israeli war bonds.
This is a significant milestone for the ordinary citizen who stands with Palestine and who does not want to be complicit in war crimes and the ongoing annihilation of the Palestinian people by an apartheid regime.
It also demonstrates what people can achieve collectively when they agitate and organise against injustice,” Cllr Gavan said.
