AS the long stretch in the evening fades, Limerick GardaĆ have advised residents across Limerick city and county to ā€œlock up and light upā€ to help combat home burglaries.

Sergeant Natasha Walsh of Henry Street Garda Station advised local residents, with one person already before the courts for targeted break-ins in the Castletroy area, to ā€œlock all doors and windows and leave a light onā€ before leaving the house of an evening.

ā€œDon’t give thieves the opportunity,ā€ she said. ā€œA well-lit home is a strong deterrent. Advising that technology ā€œsometimes lets us downā€, Sergeant Walsh also reminded drivers to double check that cars are locked.

ā€œOpportunistic thieves will not pass up the chance to relieve you of your belongings,ā€ she concluded.
