AS the long stretch in the evening fades, Limerick Gardaí have advised residents across Limerick city and county to “lock up and light up” to help combat home burglaries.

Sergeant Natasha Walsh of Henry Street Garda Station advised local residents, with one person already before the courts for targeted break-ins in the Castletroy area, to “lock all doors and windows and leave a light on” before leaving the house of an evening.

“Don’t give thieves the opportunity,” she said. “A well-lit home is a strong deterrent. Advising that technology “sometimes lets us down”, Sergeant Walsh also reminded drivers to double check that cars are locked.

“Opportunistic thieves will not pass up the chance to relieve you of your belongings,” she concluded.
