Villers students row in together for new national record

TEN students from Villiers School on the North Circular Road have succeeded in their brave bid to set a new Irish National Record in the U19 Concept 2 Men’s 100,000m row.

Art Thornbury, Cormac Welch, Tim Gouws, Noah Quinton, Seán Hayes, Sam Dunworth, Eoin O’Sullivan, Cace Macmillan, Barry Wilmot, and Cillian Burke achieved their goal in five hours, 30 minutes, and 41 seconds.

Each of the athletes rowed for 500m sprints twice on a rowing machine.

The attempt was supervised by teacher Kerrie Crowely and parent Simon Welch.

Sports Minister and Limerick TD Patrick O’Donovan visited the school to congratulate the now national record holders.
