ALMOST 200 new citizens of Limerick were sworn on Monday and Tuesday of this week at the Convention Centre Dublin.
Across six ceremonies celebrating the conferring of Irish citizenship of around 6,000 people on September 15 and 16, Limerick became 191 new citizens richer.
New Irish citizens conferred at this week’s ceremonies came from over 138 countries.
Countries with the most applicants included India (1,331), Brazil (608), the UK (485), Romania (402), and Poland (361).
The ceremonies were first introduced in 2011 in order to mark the occasion of the granting of citizenship in a dignified and solemn manner, where new citizens can celebrate the moment with friends and family.
