Culture Night set to broaden minds and spirits

LIMERICK will experience a collective widening of mind and spirit this Friday (September 19) as Ireland’s 20th Culture Night gets underway.

From poetry to painting and music to murals, Culture Night 2025 showcases the diversity and creativity of Limerick’s cultural scene living up to the theme of this year’s event, ‘One Night for All’.

Limerick is once again hosting a wide range of cultural experiences from a celebration of live electronic Irish music at King John’s Castle to a magical journey with the Madcap Chronicles of Wonderland at the Hunt Museum.

And if a trip down the rabbit hole isn’t what you’re after, there’s also exhibitions, workshops, and performances taking place at Ormston House, Limerick Printmakers, and Spacecraft Studios.

On-street entertainment includes the Boherbuoy Band on Thomas Street, while Henry Street Garda Station will be nicking culture vultures curious about the goings on in the cellblocks.

The Milk Market will open from 5pm to 8pm with a petting farm, live music, and  local craft and food stalls.

Other late night events include a Top 8 Performance Platform at Dance Limerick Church and Downbeat Records at The Wickham Way will present an evening of Jamaican music.

Limerick’s county town will be no slouches when it comes to culture either.

A screening of Birdsong by Sean Roynane will take place at the Desmond Complex in Newcastle West and  in Abbeyfeale, live music will fill the air at Siopa Milséan thanks to  Music Generation.

There will be ceol agus craic in Glenbrohane Community Hall, Granagh will host the Threads Between exhibition and Castleconnell is presenting a climate-conscious programme featuring an interactive mural launch.

“Culture Night in Limerick is a celebration of who we are,” said Mayor John Moran.

“Our streets, studios, stages, and more will come alive on September 19th with a different kind of energy – an energy of a community that knows culture can be entertaining, but above all, informative and empowering. As Mayor, I want to invite everyone, from Limerick and beyond, to join us in sharing the stories, talent, and spirit that make Limerick unique.”

Arts Officer Etain McCooey deemed Culture Night a great occasion to celebrate Limerick’s cultural, artistic, and creative communities.

“We invite audiences, existing and new, to come out into our galleries, museums, workshops, libraries, and studios to engage in the range of diverse activities and events. All events are free and open to all to try out new arts and cultural experiences,” she said.
