A YOUNG Limerick filmmaker has just wrapped his debut feature film exploring the complexities of death and grief.
20-year-old Devin Noonan, a former pupil of St Clements College, currently studying Creative Broadcast and Film Production at TUS, starred in, write, produced, and directed I Fear the Man I’ve Become.
Devin plays as main character John, a young man struggling with the death of his brother who sets out for revenge on those he believes responsible.
But as the lies mount, the truth about who really killed John’s brother becomes harder to grasp.
Speaking to the Limerick Post, Devin says the inspiration behind the film stems from his childhood.
“I love watching crime movies, I’ve grown up watching those. And I’ve always kind of been interested in how grief can change people  and how it can make you angry. So I wanted to tell a raw story about that and how that can change a person,” he shared.
The emerging filmmaker said he is proud that the film was cast and shot entirely in Limerick.
From a dark bedroom in his grandmother’s home in Moyross to the familiar streets of his native Carew Park, John said the film was put together on a shoe-string budget.
“I had to make do with what I had because I didn’t really have a budget”, Devin explained.
“It’s where I grew up and I wanted to show that off because a lot of films are in Dublin, so it was a goal of mine to show off Limerick and show people that it can be done here too with little to no money.”
The TUS student is steadfast in his belief that “if you have the willpower to get through the initial stages when you are starting out, you can definitely accomplish something here in Limerick”.
I Fear The Man I’ve Become will be released next month with an official screening to take place in Limerick.
