
CELEBRATIONS on the double are to be held as Caherdavin marks the anniversary of two cornerstones of the community.
September 27 marks the anniversary of both Christ the King Church in Caherdavin and the Caherdavin Community Centre.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Christ the King Church, while the Caherdavin Community Centre will mark 41 years of serving the local community.
A number of events have been organised across the anniversary week, put together by a dedicated community group and parish priest Fr Pat O’Sullivan.
The main focus of celebrations will take place on Saturday September 27, in tandem with Christ the King Church’s ruby jubilee.
A celebratory exhibition will take place at the Caherdavin Community Centre from 9am to 11am on September 27, showcasing the decades-long work of the local community. This will be followed by a community picnic from 12pm to 3.30pm at Na Piarsaigh GAA Club.
From 6.30pm on the same day, Christ the King Church will dedicate a celebration Mass for the entire Caherdavin community.
Tuesday September 30 will see a ‘Renewal by Remembering’ event at Christ the King Church, where a documentary on the history of the Caherdavin church will be screened from 6.30pm.
On Thursday October 2, James Kilbane will lead an evening of country gospel music at Christ the King Church from 7.30pm (free admission).
The celebrations will be rounded out on Friday October 3 with a parish community social night entitled ‘A Little Night of Music’. Proceedings kick off from 7pm at Na Piarsaigh GAA Clubhouse.
