WORKS have commenced at Thomond RFC, paving the way for upgraded facilities at Fitzgerald Park in Moyross to support the club’s growing membership.

Trustee of Thomond Eddie Hughes said: “We are determined to continue growing and developing our club, despite the challenges posed by limited playing areas and infrastructure constraints.”

“This development is a crucial step towards realising our vision of providing the opportunity for even more people to be part of a more inclusive and vibrant rugby community in Limerick, in an area that needs opportunities the most.”

Thomond currently caters for three senior teams, four youth teams and six mini teams (mixed boys and girls).

In addition, the club has a ‘Thomond Rugby for All’ team, which caters for 20 boys and girls who require assisted care.

As well as catering for rugby enthusiasts on the north side of the city, the club has recently enjoyed success on the pitch and last season secured a return to the All-Ireland League (AIL).

Co-ordinated by the Regeneration, Sports, and Recreation Directorate at Limerick City and County Council, the project is being undertaken by Martins Construction Ltd.

Funding for the project was provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, under the Limerick Regeneration Framework Implementation Plan.
