LABOUR TD Conor Sheehan is warning that Ireland is facing a national emergency as a wave of young people consider leaving the country in search of a better quality of life.
This comes in the wake of the National Youth Council of Irelandโs research showing three out of five young people under 25 are thinking of emigrating.
Deputy Sheehan deemed this statistic as “profoundly depressing”. “We are seeing a generation kept in place by promises, yet pushed to the brink by the reality of the housing crisis.
For three in five of our young people to even consider leaving the country, we have failed them. We must act now. My call to government is clear: launch a comprehensive youth housing strategy.”
