John Sheehy (31), of St Ita’s Street, St Mary’s Park, in Limerick City, pleaded guilty to the charges before Judge Carol Anne Coolican at Limerick District Court.

The judge heard that Mr Sheehy has 71 previous convictions with the courts, which included robbery, burglary, assaulting a police officer and possession of a knife.

He had been previously sentenced to four years in jail for robbery following an incident in 2022, Judge Coolican was told.

Mr Sheehy’s solicitor asked the judge to take into consideration the fact that his client had pleaded guilty to the new charges “at the earliest opportunity”.

Judge Coolican sentenced Mr Sheehy to a total of 25 weeks in jail, where all sentences would be running concurrent, with the longest sentence being six weeks.

The judge also imposed a sentence of two months in prison for the theft of the jerseys on Mr Sheehy, which would be consecutive to the other sentences.
