
THE battle on the road to รras an Uachtarรกin kicked off in earnest this week, with Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys stopping off a number of locations across the county.
The Cavan-Monaghan TD and Minister for Social Protection and Rural and Community Development stopped off at the Crescent Shopping Centre and Adare for a spot of canvassing before a party rally at the Patrickswell Community Centre on Thursday evening (September 25).
She was joined by party colleagues including Arts, Sports, and Communications Minister and County Limerick TD Patrick OโDonovan, Housing, Local Government, and Heritage Minister and Limerick City TD Kieran OโDonnell, Senator Maria Byrne, former Limerick City TD and Justice Minster Michael Noonan, and a number of local councillors from across the county.
Deputy Humphreys said she was delighted to meet with people across Limerick, and was โvery heartened by the support I have receivedโ.
She met with representatives of the Ryder Cup to discuss opportunities for Limerick and the wider region, saying the major golfing event โwill be a fantastic boost for this area bringing many visitors to Limerick and surrounding countiesโ.
Deputy Humphreys later attended a campaign rally in Patrickswell Community Centre, a location she officially opened as Minister for Rural and Community Development.
Speakers at the rally included Minister Patrick O’Donovan and Limerick senior football manager Jimmy Lee.
With nominations closing this past Wednesday (September 23), the three-horse race to the รras has been established, with Deputy Humphreys for Fine Gael, Jim Gavin running for Fianna Fรกil, and Independent Catherine Connolly.
