LIMERICK City and County Council has advertised an e-tender for a €100,000 investment in upgrading the municipal pitch in the growing Mungret Park.
The works in the popular park will focus on improving the durability of the playing surface to ensure it can better support the local sports groups and schools that regularly use the facility.
Fine Gael councillor Daniel Butler, who says he has been “centrally involved” in the ongoing developments and improvements at Mungret Park and its surrounding facilities, welcomed the news.
“This is another important addition to the facilities we are delivering in Mungret Park. The pitch is used by many local clubs and schools, and this investment will make it more durable and fit for purpose,” Cllr Butler told this newspaper.
“I want to acknowledge the generosity of Analog Devices, who gifted this land for public use a number of years ago. Their contribution has been instrumental in making Mungret Park such a success,” he added.
This announcement follows a series of local initiatives, including the delivery of public access to basketball courts and securing a commitment for the development of a Sensory Garden near the park.
The Fine Gael City West representative said that “it is incredible to see how the park has grown from an idea into a much-loved community hub. It continues to be a source of great personal pride for me but more importantly, a place of joy, activity, and solitude for the people I strive to represent.”
