Thousands of Limerick households to benefit from Fuel Allowance this Winter

The scope of the allowance scheme has been expanded this year to include people over the age of 66 and those in receipt of a Carerโ€™s Allowance.

ALMOST 19,000 households across Limerick will benefit from the Fuel Allowance from this week.

According to Minister of State and Limerick TD Niall Collins, 18,971 homes across the county will receive the payment this week.

The allowance will be paid for 28 weeks, either through a weekly rate of โ‚ฌ33 or in two instalments of โ‚ฌ462.

The scope of the allowance scheme has been expanded this year to include people over the age of 66 and those in receipt of a Carerโ€™s Allowance.

Recipients do not need to be in receipt of a social welfare payment to qualify.

Minister Collins said thatย โ€œfrom this year, the Fuel Allowance Scheme will benefit more households than ever beforeโ€.
