THE All-Ireland Men’s Rugby League will kick off this Saturday, and will continue through to the finals weekend in late April next year.
With the historic promotion of Thomond last season, there will be seven Limerick clubs engaged in competition.
This Saturday will see a feast for fans with Ballynahinch v Young Munster (Division 1A), Garryowen v UCC (1B), Old Crescent v Ballymena (2A), Shannon v Cashel (2A), Navan v UL Bohemian (2B), Midleton v Bruff (2C) and Thomond v Bective Rangers (2C), a tie that should attract interest at Liam Fitzgerald Park.
All fixtures are timed for 2.30pm starts.
It has been confirmed that the campaign will feature two ‘No Rugby Weekends’, which are separate from ‘Reserve Weekends’ in the calendar, which allow players, coaches, and volunteers to manage their time away from the sport.
Provision has also been made for the successful Club International Series, namely for League players to continue this season with the intention to play the fixture in March 2026.
IRFU Competitions Manager Kevin Beggs said that “working with the provinces and clubs, we were able to map out the men’s domestic season for the coming 12 months. What clubs want is consistency and that’s what we’re working towards”.
“We are delighted with the engagement and consultations with our AIL clubs and provincial committees during this process, which is such an important part to develop the season plan, and it’s great to have the clubs involved in the process.”
Union President John O’Driscoll added: “This is a competition that remains a cornerstone of Irish rugby. I want to thank Energia for their continued support and sponsorship of the league, which not only provides a vital pathway for players and coaches but also reflects the dedication and spirit of our clubs, who are the heartbeat of the game.”
“I look forward to the season kicking off and to the high-quality rugby that will be enjoyed in clubs across the country.”
