Limerick Opera Festival celebrates Carmen’s 150th anniversary

THE Limerick Opera Festival is set to mark a significant milestone in operatic history with a concert performance celebrating the 150th anniversary of Georges Bizet’s Carmen, one of the world’s most cherished operas.

The landmark musical event will take place on Sunday October 19 at 7:30pm at University Concert Hall promising an evening of passion and drama through Bizet’s timeless score.

The University of Limerick Orchestra, under the expert direction of conductor Michael Dooley, will join forces with eight outstanding soloists to bring the evocative music to life. From the sultry allure of the famous “Habanera” to the rousing “Toreador Song,” the concert promises to deliver all the memorable moments that have made Carmen a global favourite for nearly two centuries.

Lyric FM presenter Lorcan Murray will host the performance, providing elegant commentary and insight throughout the concert.
