NEW research from Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has found that one in eight adults would help teens access cigarettes.
Now, as a ban on tobacco vending machines comes into place from today (Monday, September 29),ย TUS warns the ban on cigarette vending machines must not be “symbolic”.
The study, published in Epidemiology Biostatistics and Public Health, found the adults would be willing to help 17-year-old’s by buying them a vending machine token, while almost one in 11 said they were unsure what they would do.
The study also found that a small minority would buy tokens for kids as young as 13 with past and present smokers more likely to help compared to non-smokers.
