A YOUNG woman who broke two windows at her own mother’s home and put her in fear for her life told a judge that she’s ready to take her punishment.

In an emotional address to the court, the 21 year old – who cannot be named for legal reasons – admitted breaching a court order which was imposed upon her to keep her from entering her mother’s home.

Judge Carol Anne Coolican heard that shortly after midnight on August 10 this year, the young woman attempted to gain entry into her mother’s home, a place from which she had been barred by a court.

When she was refused entry, she broke two windows in her mother’s home.

Garda witnesses also said the woman grabbed her mother’s mobile phone and shattered it on the ground.

Limerick District Court heard that the woman has 55 previous convictions, including 12 for drugs offences, 18 for theft, and two for assault.

Her solicitor told Judge Coolican that “notwithstanding the court order, she does have a good relationship with her mother. They meet once a week and they talk on the phone.”

Addressing the court via videolink from Limerick Women’s Prison, the young woman told Judge Coolican that “I never wanted to harm my mother”.

“I want to be punished and when I’m finished with whatever sentence, I will get treatment (for addiction). I can’t keep putting my mother through this,” she said.

Judge Coolican adjourned sentencing on the young woman until September 30 for a probation report.
