Status Yellow warning in place for Limerick as Storm Amy approaches

A STATUS Yellow weather warning is in place for Limerick and the western half of Ireland this morning as Storm Amy approaches.

Met ร‰ireann is warning localised flooding and difficult travel conditions this Thursday (October 2) for Limerick, along with the rest of Munster, Cavan, Donegal, Longford, and Connacht.

Rain across the region will be widespread and heavy at times.

A stronger Status Orange Warning is currently in place for County Kerry, where flooding is expected and โ€œvery difficult travelling conditionsโ€ were warned by the weather service.

A Status Yellow Gale warning has also been issued along the coasts from Fair Head to Carlingford Lough to Carnsore Point, and on the Irish Sea.

On Friday (October 3), the Status Yellow warning will continue for Limerick and the rest of Ireland, when Storm Amy reaches land, with Met ร‰ireann warning near gale force and gusty winds.

Difficult travel conditions can be expected, as well as possible fallen trees, and the displacement of debris and loose objects.

A Status Orange warning will be in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo, with gale force winds and predictions of fallen trees, damage to power lines and possible outages, possible wave overtopping, and very difficult travel conditions.

A Status Red warning has been issued on the coast from Loop Head to Rossan Point to Fair Head from 2pm to 8pm on Friday. The weather service is predicting violent winds up to storm force 11.

A Status Yellow gale warning will be in place for all coasts on Friday and the Irish Sea, with Met ร‰ireann predicting winds up to gale force 8 or 9.

Normality is expected to resume in Limerick on Saturday, while a Status Yellow wind and rain warning will remain in place off the coasts.
