Flooding and power outages in County Limerick as Storm Amy touches down

A ROAD in County Limerick has been shut following flooding this morning and more than 1,500 homes and businesses are without power as Storm Amy touches down in Limerick.

According to a statement from Limerick City and County Council, a section of the L1125 in Moungfune, Murroe, is flooded and a temporary road closure is in place.

Residents in the area have access to alternative routes via the L1127 Murroe or the R506 Cappanouk.

This comes along with growing numbers of power outages throughout the county.

In Foynes, there have been reports of power outages in almost 400 home and business across the morning, with current restoration times currently estimated around 3pm, according to the ESB Networksโ€™ PowerCheck website.

Almost 1,300 homes and businesses in Abbeyfeale are currently without power, with restoration also expected around 3pm.

โ€œWe apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting โ€ฆ and will restore power as quickly as possible,โ€ an ESB notice read.

A Status Yellow wind warning issued for Limerick and the rest of Ireland, in place until midnight this Friday night (October 3), warns of difficult travel conditions, debris and displaced loose objects, and the possibility of fallen trees.

A Status Orange warning is in place for nearby Clare, Galway, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo, where Met ร‰ireann is warning up to gale force winds, fallen trees, damage to power lines, possible wave overtopping, and very difficult travel conditions.

A Status Red warning has been issued off the coast from Loop Head to Rossan Point to Fair Head, with predictions from the weather service of violent storm force 11 winds.
