Mayor to fork out on Boston invitation for Limerick fashion designers

MAYOR of Limerick John Moran has put out an invitation to Limerick designers to represent Limerick and hone their craft at the Brooklyn Fashion Incubator’s 2025 Global Fashion Collective.

The invitation, which may be last minute for some, requires that designers and creatives are available to travel Stateside for the event taking place on October 2023.

The Mayor has said that he will provide financial assistance to those attending, following the submission of an expression of interest, but numbers are strictly limited.

The event will take place on October 23 in New York City, bringing together emerging and established voices in fashion innovation, sustainability, and creative enterprise. According to a statement from the Mayor’s office, the event “offers a unique opportunity to engage with global collaborators, showcase your work, and explore new avenues for development and partnership”.

Now, the Mayor is calling on expressions of interest from the local fashion community to take part.

Those submitting expressions of interest should send a letter of introduction and intention outlining the benefits to their art practice; a one-page CV; a brief description of their work or practice; a portfolio of of up five images or samples of work; and a confitmation of availability to travel to New York to participated.

Applications can be sent to [email protected] before 5pm on Friday October 10, with the subject line ‘Expression of Interest – Brooklyn Fashion Collaborative 2025’.

“We welcome applications from diverse backgrounds and disciplines within the fashion and design sectors,” a statement from the Mayor’s office said.

“Selection will be based on the quality of work, relevance to the event themes, and readiness to engage in international collaboration.

“The Board of the Limerick Fashion Incubator will assess the applications. No lobbying or canvassing will be permitted. All applicants will be assessed solely on the materials submitted.”

This comes after Limerick City and County Council signed a memorandum of understanding with the Brooklyn Fashion Incubator to collaborate and support the development of local talent.
