GARDAÍ are investigating a petrol bomb attack on a house in Limerick City this past Monday night (October 13).

It’s understood a family was watching television in a front room of the home when a petrol bomb was thrown at the property.

The attack occurred at Garryglass Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston, around 9.15pm on Monday night.

The same property had windows smashed on October 9 last, sources said.

A Garda spokesman said that “Gardaí received a report of an incident of criminal damage by fire that occurred at a domestic residence in Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, on Monday 13th October”.

“No injuries have been reported at this time. Investigations are ongoing,” the Garda spokesman explained.

A number of petrol bomb attacks, drive-by shootings, and pipe bomb attacks have plagued the area for the past two years.

A recent surge of violence in the local community is due to a feud between a number of rival clans involved in the drugs trade.

Gardaí have a number of times requested the assistance of the Defence Forces to carry out search operations, investigate and make safe improvised explosive devices.

A number of properties located in the flash point zones, concentrated in the southside of the city, have been damaged by ammunition, fire bombings, and pipe bombs.

One of the properties was so badly damaged that it had to be demolished after it was deemed unsafe structurally.

Prayers have been said in the local parish church for the violence to end.
