GardaĆ­ investigating as suspected pipe bomb thrown at house in Limerick City

GARDAƍ are investigating after a suspected pipe bomb was fired at a house in Limerick City overnight.

The missile, understood to have been an improvised explosive device, was thrown at the property on Hyde Road in Ballinacurra Weston.

A number of the occupants of the house were present outside the property at the time.

The suspected device did not explode, and no injuries were reported.

It’s understood GardaĆ­ requested the assistance of the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to examine the item.

The scene outside the house was cordoned off by GardaĆ­ overnight. The scene was lifted this Thursday morning.

GardaĆ­ suspect the incident is linked to a feud between rival families based on the southside of the city.

GardaĆ­ and the Defence Forces were contacted for comment but did not immediately reply.
