THE South Court Hotel will host the Irish Open Draughts Championships on the Halloween Bank Holiday Weekend.

Across various levels (Masters/Seniors/Intermediate/Children), players from Ireland, UK, and parts of Europe, among them current World Champion Nadia Chyzhevska of Ukraine, are scheduled to participate.

Local Conor Nee, second at last year’s World Youths Championships in Germany, is another player entered.

Draughts is a skilled game that requires technical brilliance and great spatial awareness of the playing board to succeed at the highest level, yet it is fun and engrossing as a pastime for children.

The Championships will be opened by Minister Kieran O’Donnell.
