SPOOKY season has well and truly arrived in Limerick just in time for Halloween as a number of thrilling and chilling events, workshops, and storytelling sessions kick off across the county.
Excitement is building for the arrival of Con Mór, a towering Macnas creation standing over 23 feet tall, which will come to life at King John’s Castle on Saturday October 18, with further shows on October 19 and 26 and November 1 and 2.
Lumen Street Theatre will being the scares at the Fire and Shadows Procession on October 25, when the streets of Limerick City will be transformed by illuminated supernatural beings, led by the bones of Patrick Sarsfield astride his skeletal steed.
The parade will also feature a fireworks display.
Additional support from Fáilte Ireland’s ‘Home of Halloween’ pilot scheme this year means Limerick can turn up the fright factor and deliver a bigger Halloween experience than ever before.
Some of the events on offer this month include Morbid and Sons, a macabre musical experience in a Victorian “pop-up funeral shop”, where death is sold with humour and theatrical flair.
The show takes place from Saturday October 18 at 2.30pm and 4.30pm and on Sunday October 19 on Bedford Row during the same times.
Halloween in Lough Gur returns with a chance for people to spend a week of magic and mystery full of storytelling, crafts, and spooky science from October 25 until November 1.
Fire performance company ROGU Firestorm will also light up Lough Gur and Newcastle West on Saturday October 25 and Friday October 31 at 7pm.
For anyone looking to carve some pumpkins, the Limerick Harvest Festival and City Pumpkin Patch will celebrate the season at the Milk Market on Sunday October 26 from 11am to 5pm.
The Barnagh Halloween Festival also takes place with pumpkin hunts, mystery tours, crafts, and games at the Barnagh Greenway Hub from October 25 to November 1 from 9am to pm.
Desmond Castle will become a realm of enchantment and eerie delight on Halloween Night from 4pm with storytelling and an outdoor cinema.
Meanwhile in the city, the Hunt Museum will host Magic and Mortality with seven days of creativity and curiosity (October 25 to November 2).
And Samhain Tales by the Limerick Fireside will be visiting the entire county this year, with events in King John’s Castle, The People’s Museum, The Hunt Museum, Kilmallock, and Newcastle West.
