
TRIBUTES have poured in for a woman who was “the life and soul” of her County Limerick village, who passed away on Saturday last (October 18) following a tragic car crash.
Hilda Jackson (nèe Cahill) will be laid to rest this Thursday (October 23). Paying tribute to the late community stalwart, mourners have described the late Hilda as someone who “was interested in everyone and everything” and “a loving and gentle soul”.
Funeral Mass for the late Hilda will be held at 11am on Thursday morning at Tournafulla Church, followed by cremation at Shannon Crematorium on Friday at 12 noon.
Ms Jackson, of Scellig, Tournafulla, County Limerick, and formerly of Shannon, County Clare, lost her life following a two-car crash on the N21 at Templeglantine West in County Limerick last Saturday morning.

Gardaí said Ms Jackson, aged in her 70s, was taken to University Hospital Limerick, where she was later pronounced deceased.
A passenger in the other car, another woman also aged in her 70s, was rushed to University Hospital Kerry, where she was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Gardaí, appealing for witnesses to the fatal crash, said the incident took place at around 11.50am on Saturday morning last.
In the days since her passing, tributes have been widely paid to the Tournafulla woman, with mourners saying that “Hilda was a very active lady in our community”.
“She was interested in everyone and everything, and had a great sense of humour. She loved chatting about her native Valentia, her late husband Mike, and her adored grandchildren,” one mourner wrote on RIP.ie.
“Hilda was a pure lady, she was the life and soul of the village, always smiling and spoke dearly of her family,” another wrote.
Other mourners said they “have nothing but the fondest memories of Hilda from a very young age, visiting the Jacksons where you lived in Shannon”.
“She was such a loving and gentle soul, it’s hard to believe she’s gone.”
Ms Jackson is pre-deceased by her husband Michael, sister Elinor, and brother Don. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Linnane), son Declan, children-in-law Michael and Mairead, grandchildren Emma, Rachel, Tomás, and Áine, and a wide network of extended family, friends, and neighbours.
Gardaí are still appealing to members of the public who may have been travelling in the area at the time of the tragic crash and have any information, including dashcam footage , to come forward to Bruff Garda Station on 061 382 940, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
