TREATY United can move a step closer to Premier Division status for next season with victory over Bray Wanderers in Sunday’s First Division play-off final at Athlone Stadium (kick-off 3pm).
“Overall between us, it’s always been nip-and-tuck. They won’t fear us and we won’t fear them. And I think it will be a good game,” commented Treaty manager Tommy Barrett to Live 95 ahead of the final.
The winners here will meet the second from bottom in the Premier Division on November 9 for a place in the top tier in 2026.
Barrett’s impressive side came through the two-legged semi-final 2-1 at the expense of fancied Cobh Ramblers.
In the opening fixture at the Markets Field, Treaty claimed the only goal late on from Joe Hanson at the weekend.
In Tuesday’s return leg at St Colman’s Park, Matthew Whelan levelled the tie in stoppage time.
This sent the contest to extra time and the decisive score came from centre-half Eóin Martin, who from inside the area finished brilliantly to the bottom corner at the end of the first period.
Elsewhere, Bray overcame UCD 4-2 on aggregate to reach the decider.
