GARDENING Leave, a new collection of poems by Eoin Devereux, launches at OโMahonyโs Bookstore, OโConnell Street on Thursday November 6.
The debut collection from the writer, musician and academic features a mixture of new poetry and work previously published in journals and anthologies in Ireland, the UK and the USA.
A professor of cultural sociology at the University of Limerick, Devereux leads the Creative Writers in the Community modules on the universityโs Masterโs in Creative Writing. His academic work includes co-edited books on David Bowie, Morrissey, Joy Division and The Fall. He is also one half of the post-punk duo Dopamine Fix.
Over the last decade, Devereuxโs poetry has examined the working-class experience, our relationship with nature and hidden family histories. Subscribing to the notion that all language is political, he has no difficulty in being described primarily as a political poet. In Gardening Leave, readers can expect work that is bold, challenging and, in places, subversive.
According to poet Martin Dyer, the book announces โa poet committed to the humane craft of making the lyrical voice resound as a social instrument and a gift for every reader.โ
The collection will be available from selected bookshops around Ireland and international bookshop sites.
