FEDAMORE’S Fionnán McCarthy was assistant trainer – to father-and-son duo Tony and Calvin McEvoy – of ‘Half Yours’, the 8/1 winner of The Melbourne Cup, the race that stopped a nation (Australia) in the early hours of this Tuesday morning.
The winner was ridden by Jamie Melhan, only the second female jockey to win the ‘Cup.
In the runner-up spot was Joseph O’Brien’s Goody Two Shoes, owned by JP McManus of Martinstown.
Finn has been based down under for seven years and last season he won the Leadership accolade at the Godolphin Australia Stud and Stable Staff Awards.
Of McCarthy, previously Calvin McEvoy told the press: “I’ve got the utmost trust in him and confidence in him. He’s a ripper of a young fellow.”
The Melbourne Cup had a prize purse of an astonishing $10million (€5.7m), of which the winning connections receive $4.5m and second place $1.1m.
Half Yours is owned by the McEvoy family.
