ABK win Intermediate Football Championship

AFTER a brief hiatus, Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan (ABK) will return to senior ranks next season following a comfortable 2-15 to 2-7 defeat of neighbours St Senanโ€™s in the Griffin Coaches Intermediate Football final at Seรกn Finn Park, Rathkeale.

Rocked by an opening minute goal, ABK recovered well to hold a winning 1-11 to 1-3 half-time lead.

St Senanโ€™s: Cillian Meade (2-0), Oisรญn Oโ€™Farrell (0-3), Ray Oโ€™Flaherty (0-2), James Naughton (0-1), Senan Oโ€™Brien (0-1).

In other finals, captain Craig Oโ€™Connell delivered a Player of the Match performance as Ahane squeezed past Fr Caseyโ€™s, 0-10 to 0-9, in the Premier Junior decider. ย For Gary Brennanโ€™s team, there was a significant fivepoint contribution also from Liam ร“g Glynn.

On the starting blocks for Ahane was 2005 senior medal winner with Monaleen and 70-plus time capped rugby international Seรกn Cronin.

In a first adult title for Camogue Rovers, Anthony Neylon (0-9) was outstanding in the Junior final defeat of Adare, 1-19 to 2-12 (AET).

A late point from goalkeeper Tom Clancy earned Knockainey, at the expense of Knockane, the Junior B title.

And, Mike Oโ€™Brien captained South Liberties to a 2-10 to 2-7 win against Athea in the Junior C final.
