THE swimming pool in Askeaton will open its doors once again this week, at least to some members of the local community.

That’s according to a statement from Limerick City and County Council, confirming the Askeaton Pool and Leisure complex was to reopen for use by local schools on Wednesday of this week (November 12).

The pool remains closed to other members of the public for the time being.

This comes after the complex has been closed for over two years.

The partial reopening, which includes only the pool area and not the remainder of the leisure complex, comes following a “major programme of works and investment”, the Council said, funded by the Department of Sport’s Large Scale Sport Infrastruture Fund and the local authority itself.

“In recent weeks, the final stage of preparatory work, including comprehensive water testing, was successfully completed, allowing for this phased reopening to begin,” the Council said.

Swim Ireland has been appointed as the operator of the complex.

According to the Council, the complex will be reopened in phases, with access to members of the general public to be “announced in due course”.

“An official reopening event is also being planned to take place in the near future to mark the full return of services at Askeaton Pool and Leisure.”

The Council thanked staff and the public for their “patience and understanding” during the works, which is says “transformed the facility into a modern, efficient, and sustainable asset for Askeaton and the wider West Limerick area”.
