Founded in 1985 to preserve the cherished tradition of pantomime in Limerick, the Society has become a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar. This year’s production promises all the spectacle, colour, and excitement that audiences have come to expect, with the classic tale brought to life through a host of surprises, twists, and audience interaction, ensuring a magical experience for all the family.
At the helm of this year’s production is Tony Cusack, who has led the Limerick Panto Society for an extraordinary 40 years. His dedication, vision, and leadership, alongside the support of the entire Cusack family, have been fundamental to the success and longevity of the Society’s productions. The script, originally written by John Finn and adapted by Tim Cusack, captures the humour, warmth, and energy that make Limerick Panto a much-loved annual tradition.
The production boasts an impressive cast, with Tim Cusack taking on the iconic role of Widow Twankey, Ronan Mitchell as Aladdin, and Molli-Ann O’Halloran as Princess Alexa. Elaine O’Halloran will bring magic to the stage as the Genie of the Bottle, whilst Keith McGuane takes on the villainous role of Abanazer. The ensemble is completed by Katie Bebbington as Genie of the Ring, Gareth Airey as Inspector Gadget, Philip Flannery as Sergeant Tamara, Killian Fitzgerald as The Emperor, and Sarah Nix as The Empress. Adding to the comedy are Caolán MacMahon as Sunny Day, Ali Moloney as Sandy Beach, Éadaoin Jordan as Zipity, and Jake Heenan as Doo-Dah.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated production team works tirelessly to bring the spectacle to life. Lisa Hogan oversees choreography, whilst Elaine Davern serves as Chorus Mistress. Damien O’Brien manages set and stage operations, supported by a skilled backstage team including Liam Byrne, Melissa Lynch, Malachy Cusack, Johnny Corr, Jason Scanlon, Brid Finn, and Billy Finn, who ensure the smooth running of every performance.
The Society continues its long-standing tradition of supporting local stage and dance schools. This year’s performances feature Spotlight Stage School, now under the new direction of Sadbh McCoy, with special thanks and best wishes extended to Judy O’Connor and Margaret Hough on their retirement. Students from Expressive Arts, directed by Pearl Kiely, and Gemstars, directed by Emma O’Driscoll and Georgina O’Driscoll, also take part in the children’s chorus, showcasing the remarkable local talent nurtured in Limerick.
Audiences can look forward to a live orchestra performing a mixture of contemporary hits and classic show tunes, accompanied by the Society’s talented and hardworking chorus. Costumes, managed by Imelda Cusack and Sandra Finn, with designs by Pat McGann, add colour and vibrancy to every scene. Special recognition goes to Jason Ronan, the production’s graphic designer, for his creativity and dedication in promoting this year’s show.
The Society is proud to continue its commitment to charitable causes. This year’s chosen charity is The Children’s Grief Centre, an organisation dedicated to supporting children and young people affected by loss through bereavement, separation, or divorce. A special Charity Night will be held during the run of Aladdin, with proceeds going directly to the Centre to support their invaluable work.
The production is generously supported by The Crescent Shopping Centre as main sponsor, with sincere thanks extended to Mr Brian O’Leary and all at the Crescent for their ongoing support. Additional sponsorship is provided by Shannon Airport, with thanks to Mr Declan Power, and valued corporate sponsors including McGettigan’s, Hair by Ronan, Neville’s Jewellers, and McDonald’s.
