Limrock quartet will headline night of old-school extremity with Ancient Malice and War Of Attrition

A SWEATY night of death metal madness is guaranteed at Record Room on Friday November 21, when Limerick’s Zealot Cult take to the stage with support from Dublin’s Ancient Malice and local favourites War Of Attrition.
Zealot Cult have established themselves as a formidable force in the Irish death metal scene since their formation in 2008. The quartet—John Quigley (vocals and guitar), Mick Carey (guitar), Alan Lee (bass), and Declan Malone (drums)—channel the crushing aggression and technicality of early Floridian and European death metal pioneers including Death, Pestilence, Morbid Angel, and Obituary.
After a slow start with limited gigging opportunities, the band’s fortunes changed dramatically with the release of their 2016 EP Karmenian Crypt. The recording garnered international attention and led to a licensing deal with Sweden’s prestigious Blood Harvest Records, who reissued the EP on vinyl that autumn.
The EP’s critical acclaim proved no fluke. Zealot Cult’s highly anticipated debut album Spiritual Sickness, released by Blood Harvest Records and Helter Skelter Productions, cemented their reputation as essential listening for fans of raw, no-frills extremity. The eight-track, 42-minute album showcases the band’s evolution, featuring their trademark “bloodying mess of raging riffing,” punishing grooves, and feral vocals, whilst demonstrating newfound epic scope and multi-dimensional songwriting.
Their live credentials are equally impressive. Zealot Cult have shared stages with genre legends including Pestilence, Atheist, Possessed, and Napalm Death, earning a reputation as a must-see act in the metal underground.
