A LIMERICK student who graduated at the top of his class has been crowned with the National Apprentice of the Year Award 2025.

Cian Healy from Dooradoyle was recognised for his excellence in ICT and Logistics following his graduation last week from Munster Technological University (MTU) with a Higher Certificate in Logistics.

The ICT and Logistics Apprentice (LAA) with Johnson & Johnson Vision Care was presented with the award in The Round Room at the Mansion House in Dublin.

The award recognises Cian’s outstanding performance throughout his apprenticeship with Johnson & Johnson Vision Care and the MTU Logistics Associate Apprenticeship programme.

It also reflects the success of collaboration between industry and academia, demonstrating how apprenticeships create skilled professionals who drive Ireland’s logistics and supply chain sectors forward.

Cian will now begin studies for a Level 7 Bachelor of Business in Supply Chain and Transport Management at the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI).

Efce van Heerden, lecturer and programme coordinator of the MTU Logistics Associate Apprenticeship, said that “Cian’s recognition as Apprentice of the Year 2025 is a tremendous and well-deserved achievement”.

“Throughout his apprenticeship, Cian has demonstrated exceptional dedication, professionalism, and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. His commitment to both his studies and his peers has set a strong example for others in the programme.”

Reflecting on his journey, Cian Healy said: “Before starting the Logistics Associate Apprenticeship at MTU, I was working in different industries and finding it difficult to support my young family. This apprenticeship has allowed me to build an exciting career in the supply chain industry with Johnson & Johnson, while continuing my education at MTU. I hope my journey encourages others to explore the apprenticeship route and see the opportunities it can create.”

Companies interested in joining the Logistics Associate Apprenticeship at MTU can register their interest via the official LAA website at laa.ie.
