A NEW initiative has been launched to support Limerick community groups intending to promote Christmas gatherings during the festive season.
As part Mayor of Limerick John Moran’s mayoral fund, Limerick City and County Council will offer €20,000 in grants of up to €5,000 per group, at the discretion of a judging panel, to supplement the cost of festive activities and ensure a vibrant and inclusive Christmas across Limerick.
The funding may be used to fund items including Christmas trees, entertainment, temporary festive structures, Christmas-themed installations, Christmas displays, Christmas lighting, or pop-up festive photo spots.
Applications are invited from local voluntary organisations, neighbourhood committees and residents’ associations, sports clubs and youth groups, and cultural and arts organisations and charities.
Mayor Moran said that “as Mayor, I am proud to launch this initiative, aimed at supporting our communities across the length and breadth of our city and county in holding celebrations during the most wonderful time of the year”.
“This is an idea that is rooted in the belief that the heart of Limerick’s festive season is found in our people and their community spirit. While the decorations and events themselves are important, we also want to empower our local groups to create moments of joy, belonging and happiness for all”, the Mayor added.
Funding will be considered for Limerick-based community-led initiatives only, the Council said.
Groups are asked to submit expressions of interest by email to [email protected] by 5pm on November 27.
