A SERIES of celebratory events are being organised to mark the bicentenary of St Michael’s Church in Manister.

The townland, steeped in history, developed around the foundation of the Manister Cistercian Abbey in 1148.

St Michael’s was built in 1826. The community came together in the 1980s to completely rebuild the beloved local church where it stands today.

A special celebratory mass in honour of the church’s 200th anniversary will take place on February 23, 2026, from 11.30am, with refreshments afterwards alongside a photographic exhibition of the church and townland from times gone by.
