Man appears before Limerick court in connection with historic assault

A MAN appeared before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court via video link from Australia, after admitting assaulting a man, causing him harm, in County Limerick, 12 years ago.

Tony Oโ€™Doherty (35), Churchtown, Newcastle West, County Limerick, was before the court last week.

Mr Oโ€™Doherty admitted one count of assault causing harm at Church Street, Newcastle West, on February 18, 2013.

The offence is contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. When arraigned on the charge via the video-link from Australia, before Limerick Circuit Court, Mr Oโ€™Doherty replied โ€œguiltyโ€.

Sentencing judge Colin Daly, replied that โ€œthe matter is now for sentenceโ€.

Judge Daly remanded Mr Oโ€™Doherty on bail to appear, in person, before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court for sentencing on December 15.
