A RECORD number of sporting scholarships were handed out at University of Limerick (UL) for the academic year.

UL hosted its annual Sports Scholarship Academy Awards, which represented the largest number sports scholarship awards so far presented by the university.

In all, 140 scholars were awarded at the ceremony. This year’s scholars represent 27 counties across Ireland – the biggest numbers coming from Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, Cork, Galway, and Mayo – across 25 different disciplines.

Launched in 2016, the UL Sports Scholarship Programme offers financial support and high-performance structures to athletes.

The success of the programme is reflected in the success of sports scholars who have gone on to excel across national teams, professional leagues, Olympic and Paralympic pathways, and leadership roles within sport.
