GardaĆ­ investigating suspected arson attacks on cars at maternity hospital and estate in Limerick

GARDAƍ are investigating two suspected arson attacks on cars in Limerick City, which took place this weekend, including one that occurred on the grounds of a maternity hospital.

The first suspected attack occurred in a car park at University Maternity Hospital Limerick (UMHL) on Saturday.

The blaze broke out around 6pm on Saturday (December 13), a Garda spokeswoman confirmed.

A Garda statement said that GardaĆ­ “were alerted to an incident of criminal damage of a vehicle outside a premises on Ennis Road, Limerick, on the evening of Saturday 13th December, 2025.”

“The fire brigade put the fire out and investigations ongoing,” the Garda statement added.

HSE Mid West, which handles with media queries relating to the maternity hospital, were not available for comment.

The HSE’s weekend out of hours communications service as well as the National HSE press office were also contacted for comment.

Members of the Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service also responded to another suspected arson attack on a car at a housing estate this Sunday morning (December 14).

The blaze occurred at Garryowen around shortly before 6am.

Firefighters once again put the fire out and Garda investigations are continuing.

According to reliable sources the fire on Sunday was also being treated as malicious.

The Garda Press Office stated it had no information about the car fire on Sunday.

GardaĆ­ are investigating the possibility of whether or not the two car fires are linked.
