THE year 2025 has been another hugely successful one for the Westend Boxing Club, which continues to go from strength to strength, with increasing numbers of both members and competitors alike.
The passion shown by the club leaders, outstanding ladies and gentlemen who give their time so freely for the betterment of this club can be seen very evidently in the brilliant performances of the girls and boys in the ring.
Westend Boxing has identified and is nurturing the next wave of boxing talent in this great boxing city, and the relentless, often unseen, and certainly underappreciated work of the club volunteers continues to drive success.
Sporting clubs like Westend Boxing are the backbone of Limerick’s society. Boxing itself is a sport that demands massive commitment, dedication, courage and discipline, the very traits that will help these young girls and boys achieve their goals both inside and outside the ring. The benefits are longstanding, both for the kids themselves and our community in general.

Anybody interested in joining the Westend Boxing Club can present on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, between 5:30pm and 9pm. The club is based in the Lady of Lourdes National School, very generously facilitated by school principal Peter Jennings, who has been a massive supporter of the club, and has given freely his time and energy, and school facilities to help to help the girls and boys train and fight.
The club has made champions at local, regional, and national levels. The rapid growth of the club however will soon demand a change of location, and we are urging local property owners to consider facilitating the further growth of this great club by letting a suitable premises to be used for the benefit of the young girls and boys. We also urge local political figures to review the funding available so that this great social resource can continue to do so much good for the local community. When a Westend Boxing Club fighter goes on to take an Olympic gold medal, you can say that you were there right at the beginning! Best of luck to all in the club, keep up the great work.
