THE award-winning all female choir, The Gúnas, will perform a Christmas Tidings concert in St Mary’s Church on Wednesday December 17 at 8pm.
The Songs of Peace and Joy concert will take place in the Athlunkard Street church and all proceeds will go to the Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick.
The musical director of The Gúnas is Rhoda Clery who also teaches music at Árd scoil Mhuire School.
The special guests at the concert will be the Árd scoil Mhuire School choir conducted by Nora O’Connor.
They will be joined by Diane Daly on violin and her son Liam Hunka on cello and the accompanist for the concert is Anne Cullen.
The concert will also feature soloist Holly Purtill, a 6th year student in Árd scoil Mhuire.
The Gúnas are based in Killaloe and have performed in many local events in Killaloe and Limerick including fundraising concerts and Christmas events.
For the past four years the choir has performed in the Remembrance services at the Limerick Maternity Hospital and University Hospital Limerick.
They have also been successful at choral festivals winning first place at the Female Choir Category at the Ennis Choral Festival and second place at the Navan Choral Festival.
“At the heart of this choir is an abiding love for performance. The Gúnas love to perform and the ethos of the choir is to entertain and have fun whilst doing so,” said musical director Rhoda Clery.
Entry to the The Gúnas concert is free and there will be a collection for the Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick.
This centre provides vital support for the children and young people dealing with loss through bereavement, parental separation, or loss.
