CELEBRATE the festive season and feel the warmth and heritage of Limerick City with ‘The Classic Christmas Carol Trail’ taking place this Friday 19 and Saturday 20 December. Combining traditional carol singing, street theatre and festive hospitality to create a magical, family-friendly evening for residents and visitors alike to experience the joy of Limerick at Christmas through music and community.

The trail will begin on the band stand at People’s Park at 6pm, where a carol group will perform classic Christmas classics such as Silent Night, O Come All Ye Faithful, and We wish you a merry Christmas.

The Georgian-costumed actors and singers will encourage onlookers to join in and follow the trail as it moves through the city. The bandstand area will be softly lit with lanterns and candles to evoke the charm of a Georgian-era Christmas gathering.

From People’s Park, the carollers will lead the procession for stops at The Crescent then continue onto Thomas Street on O’Connell Street junction, at the heart of the city’s Christmas shopping area.

Everyone will perform lively, familiar carols such as Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells, and Joy to the World to attract passersby and invite them to join the festive procession onto the next stop at Arthur’s Quay Park, where some very special guests will join in for a spectacular final performance with the Christmas lights on the River Shannon and King John’s Castle as the backdrop. A charity donation of €5 per person for Novas would be most appreciated but tickets are free and available from eventbrite.ie
